Careers

At Orillia Dance Academy we are dedicated to providing a standard of dance training which will, if necessary, prepare students for acceptance in a University or College degree course in dance in Canada , the U.S.A. , England , the European Union and many other countries.

This standard is reflected in the examination in dance listed in a student's curriculum vitae. Our teachers are fully trained and qualified to enter students for these exams, and they continue to upgrade their own qualifications with the support of the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing. Parents are encouraged to visit their web sites: www.radcanada.org and www.istd.org

Dance related careers: performing careers may be in a ballet company, a musical production company, casinos, cruise lines, etc.

Non performing careers: Notators (dance can be recorded just as music is written, as shown below) also taught in conjunction with the Benesh Notation Institute which is incorporated in the R.A.D. with courses in Canada; Choreographer, dance physiotherapist, archivist, librarian, historian, critic, film director, photographer, stage and costume designer, dancewear sales or – even a dance teacher, examiner or a competition adjudicator! Also, the offices of the R.A.D. and the I.S.T.D. always employ dancers or ex-dancers in various departments.
